Overview

Permethrin belongs to pyrethroid insecticide class. It is used to treatment of lice infestation and scabies. It shows activity against lice, ticks, fleas, mites and arthropods. This is used in adults and children 2 months and older.

Mechanism of action

Permethrin acts on the nerve cell membrane where it disrupts the flow of sodium current that further regulates polarization thus delayed repolarisation and paralysis of the pest and pest die.

Absorption- It is absorbed to lesser extent
Metabolism- It is metabolized by ester hydrolysis
Excretion- It is excreted via urine

Contraindication

• Contraindicated in people with people known hypersensitivity
• Contraindicated in children of less than 2 years
