Overview

Pantoprazole is known as acid neutralizing drug and is classified under proton pump inhibitors. it helps to neutralize the excess of acid in the stomach. It is used to treat reflux esophagitis

Mechanism of Action

Pantoprazole works by binding with the H+K+ATPase pump on the parietal cells and neutralize the excess of acid produced in the stomach.

Protein binding: It is 98% bound to plasma proteins
Metabolism: It is metabolized in the liver
Excretion: It is excreted via urine

Contraindication

  • Contraindicated in systemic lupus erythematosus
  • Contraindicated in autoimmune disease
