Overview
Cetirizine belongs to the class of second-generation antihistaminic drugs and is used in the treatment of allergic reactions such as sneezing, coughing, nasal congestion or hives. It is also used in asthma and it improves the urticaria condition such as wheel and flare. Its action is due to its metabolite hydroxyzine.

Mechanism of Action
Cetirizine selectively inhibit the histamine receptor i.e. H1 located on the periphery and thus it blocks its activity.

It is 93% bound to plasma proteins 
Metabolism:
It undergoes oxidative-N-dealkylation 
Excretion:
It is excreted unchanged via urine
