Overview

Ivermectin contains a medicine called ivermectin. This is a type of medicine that is used for infections caused by some parasites. Ivermectin belongs to the class of medicines called anti-parasitic drugs, also known as anthelmintics. It is a widely used medication to treat various infections caused by parasites, including strongyloidiasis (a roundworm infection) and control onchocerciasis (a worm infection that affects skin and eyes). These are parasitic infections that can affect the quality of life and lead to life-threatening conditions if left untreated, especially in people with weakened defense (immune) systems.

Indications

• It is an anti-parasitic medicine used to treat the following infection
• Treatment of intestinal strongyloidiasis.
• Treatment of parasites in the blood or tissue caused by Wuchereria bancrofti.
• Treatment of human scabies after prior treatment has failed

Benefits of Ivermectin

1. Mechanism of action

Ivermectin belongs to a class of drugs called anti-parasitic drugs. A class of drugs is a group of medications that work in a similar way. These drugs are often used to treat similar conditions. Ivermectin oral tablet works by binding to parts inside the parasite. It eventually paralyzes and kills off the parasite, or it stops adult parasites from making larvae for a while. This treats your infection.

Precaution & Warning

• Pregnancy: It is not safe during pregnancy
• Breastfeeding: Ivermectin will excrete into the breast milk in small amounts so a doctor’s consultation is necessary before taking the medicines
